Glammo

As part of the annual Dublin Bowie Festival, Signal was invited to create a typographic poster based on David Bowie’s eighteenth studio album, BLACK TIE WHITE NOISE. BTWN is a dark and intensely 90s piece of work, inspired by the 1992 Los Angeles riots (which a newly-wed Bowie watched from his hotel window), and we decided the poster deserved a dark, intensely 90s typeface. Glammo blends references to techno, AKIRA, and the Designers Republic to convey a air of sleek modernity gone badly wrong. We set the full lyrics of the title track in red and ran them sideways along the bottom edge of the poster, suggesting both an audio equalizer display and leaping flames.
